Description
Barbados Wildlife Reserve is located in the northeastern parish of Saint Peter, near the historic Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill and the community of Farley Hill. The reserve is set in a lush tropical environment and is home to a variety of native and exotic animals, including green monkeys, parrots, tortoises, deer, and iguanas. It is primarily an outdoor attraction, with open-air enclosures and forested pathways, allowing visitors to see animals roaming freely in naturalistic habitats. The reserve emphasizes conservation and education, making it a family-friendly experience.
Entry to the reserve requires a ticket, with separate pricing for adults, children, and families. It is open daily, usually from morning to late afternoon, though hours may vary slightly by season. Guided tours are not typically required, as the paths are self-guided, but staff are available to answer questions and feedings often occur at scheduled times, giving visitors the best opportunity to see the animals up close.
Visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water, sunscreen, and insect repellent for protection while exploring the outdoor trails. Photography is allowed, and visitors are encouraged to move quietly and respectfully so as not to disturb the animals. The reserve can be enjoyed year-round, with the dry season (December to April) providing the most pleasant weather. Accessibility is generally good, though some uneven paths exist, so visitors with mobility issues should plan accordingly. The site pairs well with nearby attractions, including beaches and historic plantations.
