Boyana Church (officially the Church of St. Nicholas and St. Panteleimon) is a medieval Bulgarian Orthodox church and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located in the Boyana district of Sofia at the foot of Vitosha Mountain. Slightly outside the city centre, it is set in a quiet, green area and is best known for its remarkably preserved frescoes from 1259, considered masterpieces of medieval European art. The small church complex includes several historical building phases and a peaceful courtyard, offering a calm and reflective atmosphere for visitors.

Visiting Boyana Church is a strictly controlled indoor experience to protect the fragile frescoes. The church is generally open daily, with longer hours in spring and summer and shorter hours in autumn and winter, typically closing earlier in the colder months. Entrance requires a ticket, with reduced prices for students and free admission for young children and certain visitor groups. Only small groups are allowed inside at one time, and each visit to the interior is limited to about 10 minutes, so waiting times can occur, especially during busy periods.

There are several important restrictions to be aware of. Photography inside the church is not permitted, and the interior climate is carefully controlled year-round. Modest clothing is recommended, and visitors are expected to remain quiet and respectful.
