Description

Casa da Música is a contemporary concert hall located in Porto, in northern Portugal. Designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and completed in 2005, it is one of the most distinctive modern buildings in the city and serves as Porto’s main venue for music performance.

The building’s unconventional geometric design stands out in the Boavista district, with sharp angles, asymmetrical forms, and a striking white concrete exterior. Inside, it features multiple performance spaces, including a main auditorium with seating for orchestral concerts, smaller halls for chamber music, and rehearsal rooms. Its innovative acoustics and flexible design allow it to host a wide range of musical genres and cultural events.

Today, Casa da Música is a central hub for Porto’s cultural life, hosting concerts, festivals, and educational programs throughout the year. It is both an architectural landmark and a major performing arts venue, symbolising the city’s blend of historic heritage and modern cultural innovation.
