Jatiluwih Rice Terraces are a vast and spectacular rice terrace landscape located in the highlands of Tabanan Regency, in central Bali. Spread across the slopes of Mount Batukaru, they represent one of the most extensive and best-preserved examples of Bali’s traditional rice farming system.

The terraces are shaped by the centuries-old subak irrigation system, a cooperative water management method that channels mountain spring water through a network of canals, tunnels, and communal farming areas. This system not only supports agriculture but also reflects Balinese Hindu philosophy, blending environmental harmony with spiritual balance. The landscape itself stretches in wide, flowing layers of bright green paddies that change dramatically with the seasons.

Today, Jatiluwih Rice Terraces are recognised as part of the Cultural Landscape of Bali Province. Unlike some more crowded rice terrace areas, Jatiluwih remains relatively quiet and expansive, offering long walking and cycling routes through open countryside. Visitors come for its sweeping panoramic views, cultural significance, and peaceful rural atmosphere, making it one of Bali’s most impressive agricultural landscapes.
