Description
Mount Hillaby Summit Loop is a scenic hiking route located in the central highlands of Barbados, leading to the island’s highest point at Mount Hillaby. Rising to just over 340 metres above sea level, it offers some of the most expansive inland views on the island, stretching across rolling hills, farmland, and both the Atlantic and Caribbean sides of Barbados on clear days.
The trail winds through a mix of forested paths, rural tracks, and gently sloping terrain, giving hikers a chance to experience the quieter, greener interior of the island. Unlike Barbados’ more developed coastal areas, this region feels rural and untouched, with small villages, sugarcane fields, and natural vegetation shaping much of the landscape. The loop format allows for a varied walk that highlights different aspects of the island’s topography.
The atmosphere along the route is peaceful and lightly trafficked, making it ideal for those seeking solitude and nature rather than crowded attractions. Birdsong, cool breezes, and panoramic viewpoints contribute to a relaxed hiking experience. As the highest natural point in Barbados, the Mount Hillaby Summit Loop stands out as a unique destination for exploring the island’s inland scenery and gentle highland terrain.
