São Bento Railway Station is a historic train station located in the city centre of Porto, in northern Portugal. Opened in the early 20th century on the site of a former Benedictine monastery, it is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful railway stations in Europe.

The station’s grand entrance hall is famous for its vast azulejo tile panels created by artist Jorge Colaço, depicting key moments in Portuguese history, including battles, royal events, and scenes of rural and urban life. These intricate blue-and-white ceramic murals cover thousands of tiles and turn the concourse into a visual storytelling space. The Beaux-Arts architecture of the building, with its stone façade and arched windows, adds to its monumental character.

Today, São Bento Railway Station remains an active transport hub serving regional and national train routes. At the same time, it is one of Porto’s most visited landmarks, attracting travellers who come to admire its historic tilework and architectural elegance even before boarding a train.
