Description
The Princess Grace Japanese Garden (Jardin Japonais Princesse Grace) is located in the Larvotto district of Monaco, near the seafront and within walking distance of Monte-Carlo’s hotels and beaches. Designed by landscape architect Yasuo Beppu, the garden was created as a symbol of peace and harmony in memory of Princess Grace. It is a fully outdoor attraction, featuring traditional Japanese elements such as koi ponds, wooden bridges, waterfalls, stone lanterns, and carefully pruned plants, all set within a compact and tranquil space.
Entry to the garden is free of charge, and it is open daily, typically from morning until early evening, with opening hours adjusted seasonally based on daylight. There are no tickets, guided tours, or fixed schedules, and visitors are free to wander the paths at their own pace. The garden is maintained to encourage quiet reflection, and benches are placed throughout for resting and enjoying the scenery.
Visitors are asked to respect the peaceful atmosphere by keeping noise low and refraining from touching plants or feeding the fish. Photography is allowed, but tripods and commercial shoots may require permission. The garden can be visited year-round, with spring and autumn offering the most pleasant temperatures and lush greenery. Flat paths make the garden wheelchair accessible, and it is an ideal short stop for relaxation between sightseeing in Monaco’s busier districts.
