Pura Tirta Empul is a sacred Hindu water temple located in the village of Tampaksiring in central Bali. Built around 962 CE during the Warmadewa dynasty, it is dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu god of water, and is famous for its holy spring that flows into a series of purification pools.

The temple complex is centred around a large rectangular bathing area fed by crystal-clear spring water emerging from stone spouts. Visitors and worshippers alike take part in ritual purification by stepping into the pools and moving from one spout to another, following a traditional cleansing sequence. The surrounding grounds include intricately carved shrines, stone gateways, and courtyards that reflect classic Balinese temple architecture, all set within a peaceful, forested valley.

Today, Tirta Empul remains an active place of worship as well as a major cultural attraction. Pilgrims come regularly to perform purification rituals, especially during important religious ceremonies, while visitors are drawn to its spiritual atmosphere and historical significance. The temple offers a direct glimpse into Balinese Hindu beliefs and practices, where water is seen as a powerful symbol of purification, balance, and renewal.
