Quattro Canti is one of the most iconic Baroque intersections in Palermo, located at the meeting point of the city’s two main historic streets. Formally known as Piazza Vigliena, it forms a perfectly symmetrical octagonal space where four elegant façades create a theatrical urban setting. Each of the four façades represents one of the city’s ancient districts, while the lower, middle, and upper levels symbolically display elements of nature, Spanish kings, and patron saints. Notably, statues of Sicilian rulers such as Charles V appear in its decorative programme, highlighting the political authority of the time.
