Description

SNP Bridge (Most Slovenského národného povstania) is one of Bratislava’s most recognisable modern landmarks, spanning the Danube River and linking the Old Town with the Petržalka district. Built between 1967 and 1972, the bridge commemorates the Slovak National Uprising of 1944 and is instantly identifiable by the saucer-shaped structure perched atop its single pylon, earning it the nickname “UFO Bridge.” It is a striking example of modern engineering and offers excellent views of the river, Bratislava Castle, and the city skyline from multiple angles.

The bridge itself is an outdoor structure and is free to access for pedestrians and cyclists at any time via walkways beneath the traffic lanes. A major highlight for visitors is the UFO observation deck and restaurant located inside the saucer at the top of the pylon, which is reached by elevator. Entry to the observation deck usually requires a paid ticket, with reduced rates for children and seniors, while dining in the restaurant may include elevator access. Opening hours typically run from late morning until late evening, but exact times can vary by season and day, so it’s best to check locally before visiting.

Walking across the bridge is a popular and cost-free activity that fits easily into a city sightseeing route, especially given its proximity to the Old Town, Danube promenade, and public transport. As it is a functioning road bridge, visitors should stay within designated pedestrian areas and be aware of traffic and wind, which can be strong in exposed conditions. Clear days, especially around sunset, are ideal for enjoying the views and taking photos from both the bridge and the observation deck.
